You may want to bring your car to the island, but once you are here, do make use of the local transport facilities. Its easy to get around using the local sightseeing buses and the train service is also very good. For travelling to Ryde and travelling around generally please note:

-Bus station is 5-10 mins walk

-Train station is 5-10 mins walk

-Catamaran to Portsmouth is 20 mins walk (or catch the train from pier entrance or call Ryde Taxis - 01983 811111)

-Hovercraft to Portsmouth is 5-10 mins walk

-Fishbourne car and passenger ferry is 10 mins drive

Route directions using PORTSMOUTH - FISHBOURNE (IOW) service:

Ferry crossing takes about 40 mins. Turn right out of Fishbourne ferry terminal and follow road to T junction (traffic lights) and turn left to Ryde. Follow the road for a few miles (go straight over a couple of mini roundabouts)... Eventually you will reach a set of traffic lights (straight on for Sandown and left for Seafront/Esplanade), take the left fork and follow the one way system to the sea front (you will go down the hill in the main high street - Union Street) - see the roundabout in front of the pier and turn right. Go 700 yards along the sea front and at the next opportunity go right (its like a roundabout except you have to give way to oncoming cars). Take the first immediate left driving behind The Ryde Castle Hotel and then turn left again immediately at the Chinese Take Away. You will then be in the Strand, drive for 300 yards and on the left-hand side you will see a tall white building: Strand House, 17 The Strand. Pull into our drive and someone will be there to meet you.
